Umbrellas don’t come cheap these days and that is why we must learn to fix them ourselves. Before getting to work, you need have an umbrella patching and some super glue with you. After you’ve got the required amount of tools, you need to locate the problem. Canopy tear, stem breakage or bent spokes are some of the commonly occurred issues. If your umbrella hasn’t been completely destroyed and you see some signs of mending, you need to fetch your repairing kit and get to work!
If the stem has snapped off from the canopy, you can use super glue to reattach the pieces. The smartest way to do this is to join the broken pieces and leave them for a few hours until the glue dries completely. Sometimes heating the affected area for some time also makes the disjointed areas firm and ready to use. Instead of using fire or a heater, it is best to place your umbrella under sunlight or a ceiling fan. Avoid pressure on the umbrella till the glue has dried out.
The second most common problem found in umbrellas are minor tears on the canopy. If you have pets at home, then you need to keep your umbrella away from them. The best way is to hang it on a higher platform that is out of reach. If your canopy needs fixing and you’re looking for answers, you need to take out your sewing kit and start patching up the canopy. If it’s an “L Shaped” tear, then you can use an extra piece of cloth as a patch on your canopy. If it’s a minor “I Shaped” tear, then you can simply stick the canopy by using a needle and some thread. Do not use super glue on the canopy. It never works!
Even though you can always get a new one from Ebrain, but why spend money, when you can easily fix your already existing umbrella at home. For all those who don’t like sewing and patching. You can always get a nylon adhesive repair patch. These patches come in different colors ranging from green, black and orange to red, blue and grey. If there’s a hole in your umbrella canopy, simply peel of the sticky patch and press it hard on the torn area. Your umbrella should be good as new in just a few minutes. If the canopy tear is wide, you can use multiple patches without going through the hassle of using a sewing kit.
Always make sure to clean dirt and water from your umbrella before you start repairing it. For all those using super glue at the stem of the umbrella, you can also wrap the stem with gauged wire for a stronger support. Sometimes heating the wires and plastic stem also works when they are joined together. These easy home remedies can always be used to fix your umbrella especially when you don’t feel like spending money on a new one.
